Jesus’ Mission || Luke 12:49-53

Jesus longed to complete his mission - His purpose - to identify His true followers from among the false - a mission that couldn’t be completed until His death (49-50).

When Jesus’ true followers are identified from among the false and follow Him, it may cause conflict and division, even among those closest, in families  (51-53).

Takeaways:

Although Jesus was compassionate, kind, and strong yet gentle; He did not seek peace at any price.  He claimed His identity as the Messiah; judged greed, bias, and injustice, viewed sin as an unpaid debt, and called people to make a decision based on faith. It matters what you believe.

Unity and peace in your family is not a guarantee.  Unfortunately, sometimes, reconciliation with God brings disunity with the people we love.  We seek peace, but we cannot expect it as a guarantee.

Humpty-Dumpty was pushed. Not Jesus. His whole life was devoted to providing us with forgiveness of sins and eternal life, although He knew the completion of his purpose required the cross.

Jesus is far more willing to save people than people are to be saved.
