When God Jumps for Joy || Luke 15:3-10
In response to the complaining of the religious leadership over His association with sinners, Jesus tells two stories — aimed at their uncaring, sinful attitudes.
+ God, portrayed as a man who searches the countryside for just one lost sheep until he finds it invites all of heaven to celebrate with Him over one sinner who has a change of heart.
+ God, portrayed as a woman who searches for her one lost coin until she finds it, calls for joyful celebration in front of the angels over just one sinner who has a change of heart.
Takeaways
• God believes lost and sinful people are worth the trouble and the efforts to reach them and find them.
• To God, just one sinner counts! One sinner is worth the effort. He is not interested in 99%. He wants 100%. They all belong to Him. They all matter to him. He wants them all back.
• To God, all people have equal status. Outcasts, belligerent sinners, disabled, they are all valued by Him and worth the time and effort to search and find.
• Sometimes people wander away from Jesus without intending to. Like sheep, they wander further and further away from God and find themselves in a wilderness. If you have wandered away, Jesus is calling you with love and tenderness. He welcomes you home.
• What is the Spirit saying to us about our association with those outside the family of God?
